Creating Value

At The Discourse Education, we help students reach their full potential, be it in academia or otherwise. Lesson plans are thus crafted to do so with an emphasis on learning to create value.

Who We Used to Be and Who We Are Now.

In 2020, the founder of The Discourse Education sought to answer a question: How do I, in my little way, level the playing field in the educational landscape in Singapore? To that end, The Discourse SG, a website that provides free ‘A’ Levels and ‘O’ Levels notes and suggested answer schemes, was born.

Yet, due to chance and opportunity in the founder’s personal life, The Discourse SG was shut down. Nevertheless, traces of The Discourse SG could be found here and there, with students and education institutions seemingly using the notes for their academic purposes. Even if it may not be definitive evidence of the impact The Discourse SG had, we still hope to continue to do better.

As such, out of the ashes of The Discourse SG, The Discourse Education, a premium tuition service, is born. The underpinning philosophies of The Discourse SG are brought over, with our lessons being calibrated to focus on learning and understanding in order to help students reach their academic goals.

Our Vision;

What We Seek to Eventually Accomplish.

Tuition is a highly common thing in the Singaporean society. You would find many people seeking tuition centres in Singapore or opting for a 1-to-1 session. As long as one’s family possesses the means, you would be hard-pressed to find a student who did not go through tuition at least once in the early days of their academic careers.

However, that’s the thing: as long as you possess the means, anyone can do it. Tuition is not something that everyone can afford.

As such, one day, The Discourse Education hopes to reserve some time slots in our centre entirely dedicated to the provision of free tuition for at-risk youths and impoverished families. On top of this, we are also always looking for other solutions that may help the student do well in their exams, including improvements on our pedagogy and materials, etc.

However, Rome was not built in a day. To get there, we need to first ensure that we are financially sustainable. As we hit our goals, we may expand our ability to provide education services for those who need it but do not possess the means to do so, ranging from A Levels GP Comprehension practices to O Levels Social Studies Structured Response Questions. Our Teacher

Chang

Education is always on my mind. Graduating from Nanyang Technological University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in History, I decided to pursue tutoring as a full-time career. Fortuitous circumstances brought me to the Ministry of Education in 2021, but I decided that it was not the cultural right fit for me and the working environment did not truly permit the pursuit of certain personal goals.

Education, in my opinion, should be centered on learning and levelling the playing field. Indeed, it has and will always have practical applications in society – specifically in jobs and careers – but when we spend so many years of our lives on education, it should be as fulfilling as possible. I hope to value-add to students’ lives in this way.

With that in mind, this tuition centre was founded with a focus on Humanities; specifically, General Paper, English, H2 History, History and Social Studies.
