The list of reasons to pay a visit to the town and municipality of Estepona has always been a lengthy one; those making the most of our own Málaga Airport transfers to Estepona have long done so in order to immerse themselves in an area of the Costa del Sol that feels authentically Spanish, yet still friendly to tourists.

Well, now, those visitors have been given another reason to sample charming Estepona. As reported by SUR in English, a new section of Estepona’s Coastal Path, or “SendaLitoral”, has now been officially opened by Francisco Salado, president of Málaga’s provincial authority, alongside the town’s mayor, José MaríaGarcíaUrbano.

What has the latest development been with this coastal walking path?

The southern Spain-focused newspaper reported that the coastal walking path in Estepona was now about 90% finished, and consisted of a main section stretching for some 20 kilometres, with linking pedestrian paths.

Included in the new section of the path is a 30-metre-long pedestrian bridge over the Arroyo Vaquero, which connects the Bahia Dorada residential area and the Avenida de Mexico.

Access to the bridge is provided by two concrete ramps, which – in addition to new paths – now link with the pedestrian path sections by the Avenida de Mexico.

An almost €230,000 investment in this important part of Estepona

Salado said that nearly €230,000 had been invested to make the works possible; about €214,000 of this money was contributed by the council through the Municipal Economic Recovery Plan, while the rest was sourced from Estepona town hall.

Once work on the coastal path is done, it is expected to stretch some 23 kilometres through Estepona.

Salado added that the last six years had seen the provincial authority grant aid amounting to €3.5 million for a dozen Coastal Path projects along the Costa del Sol.

Among the projects to have recently benefitted from such grant aid is the reform of a part of Estepona’s promenade between La Cala and Jacaranda.
